Enterprise Console for iPhone/iPad Overview

Start

Welcome to this video which will take you through the process of installing and using the Halcyon Enterprise Console iPhone and iPad app. We'll start by installing the app so pop into the App store and search for Halcyon Enterprise Console.

00:15

At the top of this video we can see there is only a single result so let's tap install to install the app. The app isn't very large so it can be downloaded either via a WiFi or a mobile data connection. Once downloaded we'll launch the app, and we will be presented with the login screen.

So start by entering your Enterprise Console username and password, now we recommend you create a separate user for use with the mobile version of the Enterprise Console, this way you don't need to worry if you've left your desktop console logged in when you try to use the mobile version.

00:50

Now in my example here I'm going to log in with a user called Stevemobile, and enter my password. Next we need to enter the Enterprise Server details into the server box. You can enter either the IP Address or hostname, I'm going to enter the IP Address.

Before we connect I will mention that the app does require an active data connection, this is either via a WiFi connection that has TCP access to the Enterprise Server or via a cellular data connection.

The cellular data connection has an additional requirement of either a VPN connection to the Enterprise Server network or TCP port 15000 needs to be forwarded from your firewall to the Enterprise Server.

This would need to be configured prior to the app being able to connect externally using the cellular data connection.

It would be best to ask your network administrator to configure this for you and to confirm that the port forward is in place ready for you to use. If this has been configured, you just need the IP address or hostname of the external interface where the port forward has been configured.

In my example, I'm connected on my local WiFi network, so I'll leave the route empty and tap 'log in' to log in.

Hopefully you should be familiar with the desktop version, so the view should look very familiar. You have the full list of scrollable alerts on the left showing the alert type icon, if there are any comments for the alert, directly below this you see the comments icon.

Next we have the date and time the alert was raised, the status of the alert, usually in open or say console state, the device details including the name of the device and either the hostname or IP address. Next we see the alert type and finally the alert text.

To view or perform any action on an alert simply tap on the alert and the available options will be displayed. Lets tap view details and here we see the full details of the alert. Now from this screen we can tap email at the top right to email these details. Now I'm not going to email these, so I'm just going to select cancel and delete the draft.

03:07

So let's go back to the list of alerts and see what other options we have available. Next we'll add a comment to an alert so let's tap 'Alert'. Tap 'Add Comment' and you're presented with a box asking you whether this is the alert you would like to add a comment to. I'm going to tap on OK, and I'm going to enter 'Steves Alert' just so everybody knows not to do anything with it. That's done! If I go back into the alert, we now see in the comments section 'Steves Alert'.

OK, back to alerts screen and another option available is 'Reply', now this is only available for IBM i inquiry alerts. If we tap a non inquiry alert, the reply button is greyed out and is unavailable. We can see that on this alert, 'Reply' is greyed out.

We'll cancel this and find an inquiry alert, 'Reply' is available, we'll tap this, again we're presented to confirm this is the alert we want to reply to, I'll tap OK, and we are asked for our reply. Below this we have an optional comment box and I'm going to leave this empty.

Tap OK and that's going to go back to my IBM i, answer the enquiry message at the alerts now been closed.

04:25

So moving away from the alerts, if we look on the left of the screen we can see a list of devices. Now these devices show the status of the device and also the number of alerts for that device.

Now if we wish, we can tap on any device and we've got a subsetted list of just that device of alerts. Now while we're on subsetted alerts, we can also run a search for either a word that's in a device description or within the alert text.

So if I clear this box out, type in 'password' and ask to search for that within the alert text, we get a list of just the alerts that contain the word 'password'. To clear this search, simply click the cancel button, and we are back to the full list of alerts.

Once you are finished, tap the home button on your device and you are now logged out the Enterprise Console.
