IBM’s best kept secret QSYSMSG message queue!

Did you know that certain IBM messages with severity 99 are rarely seen on QSYSOPR message queue because they are labelled as informational?

Luckily, there is an easy way to ensure these messages are never missed. By simply creating QSYSMSG message queue in QSYS library, all system critical messages will automatically go to that message queue - in addition to QSYSOPR.

Some of the messages you can get via QSYSMSG include:

  • Serious storage condition may exist
  • Error occurred on disk unit &1
  • Mirrored protection is suspended on disk unit
  • Storage limit exceeded for ASP &1.
  • System ASP unprotected storage limit exceeded
  • Weak battery condition exists.
  • Disk unit &1 not operating
  • Nearly all available machine addresses used
  • QAUDCTL system value changed to *NONE
  • Main Storage card failure is detected

More importantly, you have the option to be notified –  even react – to all important messages automatically. Halcyon's Message Manager provides a pre-configured solution that will automatically tell you when you have a critical alert by sending you a message via SMS, email, or to our multiplatform dashboard. It can even action a pre-programmed response to specific messages for you!
