Halcyon Disk Space Manager comprises:

  • A build engine that collects data from all areas of your disk.

  • A hierarchical viewer for analyzing the collected data.

  • A report generator for printing disk analysis reports.

  • A Physical File Member analysis utility that can reorganize members to reclaim deleted record space.

  • A PC application provides a visual representation of the disk information held across your enterprise.

The advanced features of the hierarchical viewer make it easy to find the information you want. You can quickly discover the cause of sudden increases in disk usage, or unexpected decreases. By identifying and removing forgotten files and out of date test libraries you can avoid unnecessary disk upgrades.

You can easily locate objects that are no longer used, or are not being saved. You can find source file members that are no longer needed, or compiled objects created from out of date source, or for which the source no longer exists.

Comprehensive Features

The Halcyon Disk Space Manager's advanced design incorporates all the features you would expect from a top class product.

  • The efficient build engine can analyze all areas of your disk - The Library File System, the Document Library System, and other file systems in the IFS. You can also choose to analyze any Independent Auxiliary Storage Pools attached to your system.

  • You can analyze different areas of disk at different levels of detail. For example, analyze system libraries to library level whilst analyzing user libraries to member level. Or have the system automatically decide the level of detail, based on how volatile the library size is.

  • The hierarchical configuration allows you to configure the system as generally or precisely as you want, using system settings, file system settings, application settings, or individual library, directory or folder settings.

  • Commands can be automatically submitted when a library, folder or directory size changes by a predetermined amount. This may be used, for example, to alert you to a possible problem that needs investigation.

  • Using the Quick Setup you can quickly set the analysis settings to your own requirements in just a few minutes.

  • The advanced hierarchical viewer allows you to analyze the collected data.

  • The comprehensive set of display formats allow you to view the information that is important to you. If a suitable display format is not available, simply create your own. You can create any number of custom formats, allowing you to display the information exactly as you want it.

  • The comprehensive set of sorting and filtering options, together with the tree mode and flat mode display options allow you to organize your data and easily find the information you want.

  • When you have found the information you want, you can name and save the viewer settings as a user defined View. Saved Views can be applied to any build to quickly display the information you want in the way you want. Views for many common tasks are shipped with the system and are ready to use.

  • Data can be enhanced in detail or refreshed from within the Viewer. For example, if a library has only been analyzed to library level, you can still drill into it - you will be prompted to run a dynamic build to add the additional detail - and the drill operation continues when the detail is available.

  • Sometimes you may want to analyze a project as a unit. Your project may be contained in separate source and object libraries, and possibly you have a folder or directory for documentation. User defined Applications allow you to create a named collection of libraries, folders and/or directories which can then be analyzed as a single unit. You can also configure build settings by application.

  • Self-maintaining generic applications can be created by adding one of the predefined special values, such as *ALLUSR (to select all user libraries) to the application, or by using generic name entries such as ABC*.

  • Reports can be defined and can be printed automatically as part of the build process. Or you can print data on an ad-hoc basis from the Viewer.

  • The Output Disk Analysis Data command allows you to send output into either a physical file, which can then be used as a data source for your own queries, or as comma separated data into a stream file in the integrated file system, which can then be loaded directly into your favorite PC spreadsheet application.

  • User defined Object Sets allow you to create a named set of object types optionally with object attributes and source types. Object Sets operate in include mode or omit mode and allow you to perform complex filtering operations on your data.

  • The Analyze Physical File Members utility allows you to search a user defined application or a specified set of libraries for physical file members containing deleted record space. The utility can either reorganize the members found, or collect the data for review and later action.

  • A comprehensive manual is provided, and all displays and commands have on-line help.
