High Availability Suite
Suite Componenets | Performance Manager
The Halcyon Performance Manager provides statistical and trend analysis as well
as comprehensive performance monitoring, alerting and management capabilities.
The Halcyon Performance Manager has been carefully designed to ensure
accuracy of data.
There are two parts to the Halcyon Performance Manager:
- The AS/400 base system for capturing data and monitoring for performance
alerts, the Performance Monitor.
- The PC graphical user interface providing "pop-up" window alerts, graphical
displays and comprehensive reporting capabilities, the Performance Manager.
The AS/400 "Display Performance Data" screen allows an operator to view current
performance using green-screen technology. This screen is automatically
refreshed every 20 seconds if left on display.
The PC graphical user interface allows the current performance information to be
viewed easily from any system in a graphical manner.
Also included is a set of programs designed to simplify the task of creating,
organizing and printing reports from the stored historical data.
Monitoring Performance Alerts
The Halcyon Performance Manager monitors for various performance conditions
and can take appropriate actions based on various performance threshold limits
being exceeded.
The performance thresholds that can be monitored are as follows:
• Total jobs in system
• Filter description
• CPU%
• ASP%
• Average response time
• Maximum response time
• Total active jobs in system
• Users signed on
• Users disconnected
• Suspended system request jobs
• Suspended group jobs
• Total batch jobs in system
• Batch jobs on message wait
• Batch jobs running
• Batch jobs held while active
• Batch jobs queued
• Batch jobs held on job queue
• Batch jobs on held job queues
• Pool size
• Data base faults
• Data base pages
• Non-data base faults
• Non-data base pages
• Active to wait
• Wait to ineligible
• Active to ineligible
• Run priority
• Time slice
• Maximum run time (minutes)
• Maximum CPU time
• Maximum storage
• CPU%
• Response time (seconds)
• Job status
The Halcyon Message Manager Interface
Performance Alerts can be filtered so that you are only notified when certain
thresholds are reached, for example ASP exceeds 80%.
If an alert is triggered, there are several possible actions that you can take.
An automatic alert is sent to the PC GUI interface, however you can take various
other actions on the AS/400. These include executing a command, calling a
program, sending a pager message and displaying the alert in a pop-up window
on someone's terminal (Console action). |
