Halcyon Software Launches Network Server Suite v6.0 supporting native AIX monitoring

Date Posted: April 30, 2009

Extensive usability and productivity enhancements for AIX and Windows server management

Halcyon Software Inc., a global leader in systems management, today announced the launch of Network Server Suite V6.0, a native AIX monitoring software for the system p range of servers designed to enable outsourcers and systems administrators of all levels to deliver a seamless IT operation without increasing headcount by centralizing the monitoring and management of all network servers (Windows®, Linux®, UNIX®, AIX®) and SNMP devices.

Halcyon Network Server Suite and Enterprise Console provide comprehensive monitoring and automation for AIX, Windows, IBM i, SNMP devices and other network components including a centralized “dashboard view” of the entire enterprise, regardless of location and platform. When the Network Server Suite is integrated within an IT environment to support existing monitoring tools it negates the need for multiple screens to monitor multiple environments or platforms. Essential monitors ensure maximum availability of servers and network devices 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Alerts are routed to the Halcyon Enterprise Console or text messages to mobile phones or by email.

Operating in conjunction with the Network Server Suite, Halcyon’s native AIX Server Manager delivers even tighter control of “mission critical” applications running on the AIX platform. Typical applications include Oracle and DB2 backend databases. Halcyon AIX Server Manager can be used to proactively monitor, manage and control system availability and automatically respond to operational situations specific to a company’s on call schedule and escalation policies.

Significant features, not found in other similar AIX monitoring products, include script monitor enabling outsourcers and systems operators to run their own scripts with custom parameters to monitor the output using full regular expression and wildcard compatibility. Check logical groups, logical volumes and physical volumes and keep track of unused disk space with logical volume monitoring. File monitor and the ability to track changes to critical files, such as “inittab” alerting to unauthorized changes coupled with error report monitor providing immediate alerts to errors reported by “errpt” and the ability to specify error conditions.

Martin Norman, Technical Support Manager at Halcyon said, “Halcyon’s AIX monitoring component will integrate with an organizations existing Windows or IBM i monitoring tools eliminating the need for multiple screens to monitor multiple environments or platforms. There’s also no need for an AIX expert to manage the platform as Halcyon AIX server manager comes with pre-populated and pre-defined monitoring and alerting templates covering the most common monitoring requirements. These precisely emulate the actions of a very experienced IT operator and makes software monitoring and management possible within hours.”

Halcyon AIX Server Manager also comes with system uptime and load average features including early warning alerts to critical issues and notifications of system performance. In addition to process monitor that tracks the status of subsystems and subsystem groups and generates alerts when critical subsystems stop running, or when an unexpected system starts.

Neil Wright, p Series Consultant, Real Solutions commented, "I'm extremely impressed by the comprehensive features and significant enhancements Halcyon has made to its AIX Server Manager, especially in the latest release. This tool has resulted in significant resource savings within my IT environment.  Having the ability to send out text messages to mobile phones or to be notified by email and the integration into our own help desk system to automatically generate help desk tickets has given my IT team the ultimate flexibility."
