Halcyon releases Enterprise Console 7.0
Date Posted: 04/12/06
Systems management software provider, Halcyon Software, has announced its latest release of its popular graphical user interface (GUI) tool, Enterprise Console 7.0, which allows centralised management for all systems alerts from multiple platforms including System i™ (iSeries™, AS/400™), Windows®, Linux®, AIX® and Netware® systems.
Enterprise Console 7.0 enables IT managers and network administrators to manage large numbers of servers – no matter how remote – for example across different sites or countries from a single location. Alerts generated from servers, applications and SNMP devices, including hubs, router and switches, can be viewed and managed on a single PC screen.
Through the use of this GUI, all systems and alerts can be colour-coded to aid identification on screen – to enable the operator to take appropriate remedial action quickly and according to alert priority.
The Enterprise Console interfaces with all of Halcyon’s advanced System i™ (iSeries™, AS/400™) monitoring software suites as well as their Intel® offering – Network Server Suite.
Key features of Enterprise Console 7.0 include:
Enhanced helpdesk integration
As system alerts arrive at the Enterprise Console, the operator is now able to automatically or manually forward the alert by email into any helpdesk system to generate a helpdesk ticket (including all market-leading third-party helpdesk applications such as Heat, Touchpaper, Magic etc.). With a simple mouse-click, the operator can now copy an alert, or send it via email / SMS to a third-party helpdesk system to create a helpdesk ticket immediately. The alert details include date / time, device, inquiry, product, source, text and type, and there is also the option to use XML format. In addition, comments can be added to the alerts to provide more information to any other Enterprise Console users.
Second-level help text
Enterprise Console 7.0 now provides the ability to forward full second-level help text from System i™ (iSeries™, AS/400™) alerts straight to the console and from there directly to phone, email or any other notification device enabling the operator to see the full details.
Improved Database
The Enterprise Console now uses Microsoft® SQL Server 2005 as its back-end
database, used to store all incoming alerts. Halcyon chose SQL Server to ensure that
the Enterprise Console is built upon a resilient, industry-standard platform that will facilitate the future growth of the product, and allow their customers to feel safe in the knowledge that they are investing in a reliable product.
Extended device manager support
Servers can be identified by group – such as customer, department or other type. This allows the operator to quickly associate each individual machine and take actions consistent with the group.
Lorraine Cousins, Managing Director of Halcyon Software, comments, “The new enhancements in Enterprise Console 7.0 have been developed in direct response to requests made by our customers to further improve productivity. This new release confirms Halcyon’s commitment to providing functionality that really contributes to the way companies wish to run their operations”.
Price and availability
Enterprise Console 7.0 is available as part of three systems management suites – Halcyon Systems Operations Suite, Halcyon High Availability Suite and Halcyon Operations Center.
Enterprise Console 7.0 is available immediately and can be downloaded from the Halcyon website: www.halcyonsoftware.com/downloads
Pricing of the monitoring suites, which includes the new version of Enterprise Console, is tiered according to the IBM System i® (AS/400 iSeries®) processor bands of individual machines and partitions.
