We use Network Server Suite from Halcyon to monitor and manage our critical business applications, Intel servers, services and devices across our network. The Halcyon Enterprise Console also allows us to monitor our IBM System i™ (iSeries™, AS/400™) main business computer systems.

It is vital to our business to monitor all aspects of the network, including remote servers, email systems etc. from a central point, and if problems arise our support team are notified immediately by messages being sent to mobile phones or PDA's. Issues can be resolved quickly and therefore minimal or no disruption occurs to normal business operations.

The Halcyon Restricted Tasks Manager, that allows us to run unattended restricted state tasks, has simplified the performance of system backups and other tasks, and has really had a positive impact on our business. We currently use a major software competitor monitoring software that does not include this functionality.  Each time we needed to perform a full system save, someone from our IT department had to go into the office and manually issue the commands for the system save, then monitor the system during the five hours it took to perform the task.  Not only did that mean additional overtime cost, but because there was someone in the building, we had to hire a security guard for that time as well.  We were not performing our full system save as often as recommended to assure maximum data recovery in the event of a disaster. 

Now, with Halcyon Restricted Tasks Manager, we can schedule, or submit to a job queue, any number of restricted state functions to be performed without risk in a completely unattended environment.  We can easily configure the software to carry out scheduled restricted state tasks more frequently and at times when system utilization is low, or we can configure the software to submit the tasks to a job queue to be carried out as soon as possible after other jobs have completed.  We can even have status messages and error conditions sent out to mobile phones and pagers before during and after task processing!  We are reducing the risk of losing valuable data because we can perform system backups more frequently.  This software has enabled us to eliminate expenses surrounding the system save task, making our return on investment almost immediate.
